The Upper Midwest Buckskin Horse Association, UMBHA, is a non-profit horse club dedicated to the advancement of the Buckskin Horse and its members.

The Upper Midwest Buckskin Horse Association is a charter of the International Buckskin Horse Association, which is a color registry for Buckskin, Dun and Grulla horses. The International Buckskin Horse Association was incorporated in 1971 to meet the needs and desires of Buckskin owners throughout the world. IBHA operates on a worldwide basis with registered horses in fifteen countries as well as the United States. Points toward IBHA year-end awards are available at UMBHA shows.

UMBHA offers three shows per year, with a full slate of IBHA classes for Open, Youth and Amateur including weekend high-point awards. We also offer All Breed classes so our shows are a great place to put a lot of open show points on your horses

We encourage everyone to nominate for our great year-end, all-around and lifetime accumulative awards.

UMBHA shows represent what horse showing is all about; a family oriented atmosphere and warm camaraderie.  Come join in on the fun!

Recent IBHA Division Additions:

2020 -

The Adult Walk Trot division will be adding Adult Walk Trot Trail to its list of approved classes in 2021. There was also a clarification done, stating that a card holder in the Walk-Trot division may also show in their respective Amateur halter class only. These people must hold an amateur card which can be purchased separately.

The Buckskin Bred Program that is new this year to our show bill! Halter Stallions, Halter Geldings, Halter Mares, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Ranch Pleasure, and Ranch Riding.

The Miniature horse division is growing by leaps and bounds. There were four separate proposals that all passed. New, starting in 2021, is the addition of the Driven Cloverleaf class. This is the barrel racing of the driving scene! The horse can only trot the pattern and will be penalized for breaking into the lope. Riders under 18 must wear an approved SEI helmet. As of right now, the driving horses all show together. Anyone familiar with the driving knows there are two different types (one like Arabian/Saddlebred/Morgan type and the other like Stock breed type). The Miniatures passed the proposal to make a separate class stated as Western Pleasure Driving. This will allow the judges to compare "apples-to-apples". With this rule passing, a proposal was made to clarify the name of the current driving to more aptly depict the type/style of driving horse. On that note, they also proposed and passed the addition of an All Ages, All Sexes Stock Type Halter. This again was to compare "apple-to-apples".

2019:  Amateur Select Huntseat and Western Discipline Rail was approved.  These classes will be added to the shows in 2020.   Buckskin Bred horses are now being accepted for registration and classes will be held in 2020.  Watch for two added money classes to be held at the IBHA World Show!

2018: Adult Walk Trot was added with the following classes:  Showmanship (Walk only), Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship.

2017: Ranch Horse Division was added. Classes include Conformation, Ranch Horse Pleasure, Ranch Riding, and Ranch Horse Trail.

2016: Miniature horse division was added with several classes - Halter, Dun Factor, Pleasure Driving, Jumping, Trail, and Liberty Class. Yearling and Two Year Old In-Hand Trail added to their list of classes.

2015, Select Amateur division for members age 50 and over.  Performance Halter - for horses who have earned an ROM in performance events.

2011, IBHA 5-11 Walk-Trot division, helping encourage our young youth to exhibit
